Description

The discipline of dental radiology requires clinicians to have an in-depth understanding and respect for the laws of ionizing radiation as well as an earnest to provide protection to themselves and patients from possible harmful effects. This course will present current research-based radiation safety protocols as outlined by leading national organization in the U.S. In addition to capturing radiographs safety, dental professionals also need to produce images of high quality for diagnostic purposes. This course will cover imaging principles that produce diagnostically sound radiographs, review capturing techniques, and identify common radiographic errors and their corrective actions.

 Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the oral health care provider will be able to:

1.     Define radiation and relate its potentially harmful effects to safety protocols.

2.     Write office radiation policies that reduce exposure for both the clinician and patient.

3.     Employ techniques during radiographic exposure that render diagnostically acceptable images with high quality.

4.     Identify common imaging errors and understand appropriate corrective measures.

5.     Distinguish between two-dimensional and three-dimensional imaging and understand their uses in the field of dentistry.
